Bassendean Community key survey results:

Over the last weeks,
there were various surveys on
www.ourbassendean.com

  42% want underground electricity
20%
want stormwater recyling
30%
want community referenda input for changes
43%
want a high rise near Bassendean Station
... Only 9% want houses built on parks

Now, consider what our councillors
& potential councillors are saying ....

The views of the new and existing councillors,
following the Oct 20 2007 election, are shown below.

Town of Bassendean is divided into 3 wards
with 3 councillors in each ward.
Below are the positions of our 9 Councillors
  3 questions for councillors:

Q1: Christie Park, Old Perth Rd was
a gift to the town by Christie Family.
The Special Meeting in March 2007
said save the park or give it back to
the family if not wanted.

Do we save Christie Park?

Q2: The Town is seeking ways of
increased housing density as part of
the 'Visionary Town Plan'. One of the
Hames Sharley recommendations is
to build housing on BIC Park, as part
of the Town Centre, Guildford Road.
The Town has funds in 2007/2008 to
build access roads on BIC Park.

Do we save BIC Park by not building houses on the park?
(43% want highrise near station instead)

Q3: The Town is not planning to start
applying for funds for underground power until 2009/2010 and then for Ashfield.
This does not mean that the Town will
be successful. Estimates suggest that
in 2009/2010, the 50% contribution could be $10,000 for each lot owner.

Do we look at alternatives that
could be cheaper? Do we start the program of underground power sooner?

Build on part of BIC Park to get
more people living in Basso.

the Christie Family.
Yes. Maintain the ambience of
Bassendean.
Street by street - ratepayers to
decide. I am appalled by the
excessive costs that might be
imposed.
Mary

Cr Michelle STUBBS
Yes, if, eg, funds were to be used for a new administration building.

No. Support sale if Bassendean Oval becomes a Public Park, with some form of acknowledgment to Christie family.

In principle, support Council Resolution that a further report be prepared for Council at a later date on possible sale.
No. Development on part on the BIC Park as listed in the Town Centre Area Strategy will provide both funding to assist in the Town’s ongoing revitalization as well as passive surveillance for the safety and security of the Park.

In principle, support Council Resolution of our vision for the Town Park to provide an important meeting place and a vibrant hub for the community.

No. Support Council Resolution to continue to reserve funds for ToB properties; and investigate further options to assist ratepayers meet costs as part of an ongoing underground power program for
the Town of Bassendean.

Note: Current ToB plans do not call
for an application for support funding
from State Government bodies starting
in Ashfield until 2009/2010. SImilarly,
any ToB report on the financial implications will only be done then as a lead up to the 2009 funding application.
